Leaflet HEMS with new functions: Dynamic tariff optimization and network efficiency

The update from Consolinno Energy is set to raise the bar in smart energy management for homes: Leaflet HEMS now combines cost efficiency thanks to dynamic tariffs and legally enshrined grid stability in accordance with Section 14a of the German Energy Industry Act (EnWG).

Leaflet HEMS Power Grid

With the new features, system owners can now view the current electricity price on the EPEX exchange in real time on the home screen of their Leaflet HEMS, charge their electric car at the cheapest prices, and track curtailments by the grid operator. The only requirement is to sign up for a dynamic tariff and register with the grid operator in accordance with Section 14a of the German Energy Industry Act (EnWG).

This innovation ensures that households can always use the cheapest available electricity price, regardless of the electricity provider or tariff, while at the same time supporting the stability of the power grid through intelligent load distribution.

The background: Since January 1, 2024, relevant consumers with a capacity greater than 4.2 kW (wall box, heat pump, air conditioning, energy storage) have been required to register with the grid operator. The grid operator must be able to dim them in an emergency in the event of grid overload.

The latest expansion of the Leaflet HEMS home energy management system enables the seamless integration of dynamic electricity tariffs based on the current exchange price of electricityโ€”regardless of the tariff. The system continuously updates price data and offers users full transparency regarding the current market price.

On the other hand, the current HEMS update offers a practical solution for installers and end customers in relation to grid serviceability in accordance with Section 14a of the German Energy Industry Act (EnWG). The Leaflet HEMS processes the analog signal that the grid operator sends to the radio ripple control receiver (FRE) or the FNN control box with relay outputs via the HEMS relay inputs and transparently displays grid-compatible control in the app. This function is being continuously developed so that the Leaflet HEMS will soon also be able to process digital signals from a control box.

Innovative PV and tariff-optimized charging options

A particular highlight of the new functions is PV and tariff-optimized charging. This enhancement combines existing photovoltaic optimization with new dynamic price optimization. The system gives priority to using surplus energy from the photovoltaic system when it is available. At the same time, users can set a price limit above which the system automatically selects the cheapest time for charging based on price forecasts for the coming day.
